There
are many styles of pins on the market, designed for specific
purposes. Using the appropriate pin will make each sewing
process easier.
Pins have either glass heads (iron proof) or
plastic heads
(cannot be ironed), so please check instructions on packaging.
Appliqué: Approx 2cm
long, small head pins for all appliqué
work.
Flower Head: Longer pins (approx 12cm)
are ideal for machine sewing. The
flower head sits flat, and the longer pins secure several
layers
of fabric.
Patchwork: These pins are designed for
general sewing, and have
a very sharp point.
Quilting: Long pins which are thicker
than other pin styles. Designed
with a very sharp point and strong shaft to hold fabric and batting
layers together.
Safety: There is a large selection of
safety pins available - either straight or
curved in varying sizes. Used to pin baste quilts.
Silk: A very thin pin with a diameter of
approx 0.5mm, and will not
leave a pin mark on your fabric. The head is very small and
will
not hinder any sewing by either hand or machine.
