Sewing Needles
Universal: For most woven
fabrics, knits
and
synthetics - have a slight
ball
point making it versatile for sewing most fabrics.
Ballpoint: For cotton knits,
interlock,
rib knits, fleece, double knit,
and
most knit fabrics. The ball point tip prevents the needle
from
piercing and breaking fibres.
Jeans/Denim: For
denim, canvas and other tightly woven fabrics. The sharp
strong
point will penetrate dense fabrics. These needles are
excellent
for top stitching woven fabrics.
Leather: For genuine leather.
The chisel
point will
penetrate
difficult to sew projects. Do not use with Ultra Suede or
textiles.
Quilting: For
piercing and quilting layers of cotton fabrics with batting. The long
sharp point penetrates many layers, and maintains straight stitches.
Stretch: For knits with a two
way
stretch particularly those
containing
Lycra rubber used for swimwear and lingerie, and for sewing elastic.
This needle has a specially designed scarf which prevents
skipped
stitches.
Sharps/Microfibre: For silks,
microfibre
fabrics and penetrating densely woven
fabrics. The sharp point is designed for perfect straight
stitching iun top-stitching and button holes.
Metalfil/Embroidery: For sewing
and
embroidering with rayon and metalic threads on
woven or knit fabrics. The larger eye accomodates these
specialty
threads, and is also excellent for restricted eyesight as it is easier
to
thread.
Twin (or Double): Two needles
on a cross-bar with a single shaft, that sews two lines of stitching at
the same time. Twin needles are idendified with two separate
nombers such as 2.0/12 (or 2.0/80). The 2.0 specifies the
distance in millimetres between the two needles, and the 12 (80) is the
needle size. For
heirloom sewing and decorative top stitching.
Triple: Three needles on a
cross-bar with a single shaft, that sews three lines of stitching at
the same time.
