About Us

I began patchwork in 1981 after moving to Sydney from Adelaide. Little did I know that the first workshop would change my life and send me on an endless path of trying to find the perfect piece of fabric to cut up!

Our family moved back to Adelaide in 1983 and there I became involved with the newly formed Quilters Guild of South Australia becoming the exhibition co-ordinator and later the President of the Guild. Another business transfer brought our family back to Sydney in 1987 and I became the secretary of the Quilters Guild in New South Wales for 3 years..

Full time work and family illness resulted in little time for my sewing passion but I was still able to maintain a little time each day to sew something.

Following my retirement from full time employment I was amazed to find that I was unable to purchase the most basic sewing items at my local shops. This is what prompted me to establish a mobile patchwork and quilting supply business "Threads and Things".

From humble beginnings in July 2003 with one suitcase, Threads and Things has grown to fourteen suitcases. I have been able to find many interesting and exciting new products which make our sewing more interesting. As you browse through the catalogue I am sure you will be surprised at what I am able to fit into suitcases!

I thoroughly enjoy meeting members of patchwork and quilting groups, and looking at all of the new projects that are being created. There are so many very talented women making beautiful quilts, you should all be very proud of what you are achieving.

So do I have time to sew now with the business? The answer has to be yes! I love hand quilting, and there is always a quilt in a hoop ready for me to sew a few stitches when ever possible.

Please enjoy this web site and if you have any special requests please contact me.

Don't forget, I would love to come and visit your group.

Happy sewing - Maree
