Scissor sharpening I have made contact with a company who can sharpen scissors -hooray- at last a specialist company who know how important it is to have sharp scissors and not some-one that only knows how to sharpen butchers knives!! This company sharpens scissors for the hairdressing industry so you can be assured they know what they are doing!!

Contact - The Hairdressers Hardware, Unit 20, 22 Hudson Avenue, Castle Hill NSW 02 9894 8866 $55.00 for each pair of scissors. Scissors can be delivered to Castle Hill or alternatively you may send your scissors via Australia Post. You will be without your scissors for about a week. Initially you might think this is expensive but if you have invested in a good pair of scissors (e.g. Gingher) it is worthwhile knowing that this company know what they are doing. The sharpening service restores you scissor to pristine condition

Look what’s new!!!
Bigger Perfect Circles – Karen Kay Buckley has increased her range of Perfect Circles with the “Bigger Perfect Circles”. Each pack contains 2 circles of each size, ranging from 2.25” to 4.5” diameter circles – a total of 20 circles. These heat resistant Mylar plastic templates take the work out of making accurate circles – every time.  The Bigger Perfect Circles are $19.95.
The original Perfect Circles contains 15 different sized circles, ranging from 7/16" to 2"- a total of 60 circles. $17.95 per packet.

606 Spray – This is a fusible web in a can, which is suitable for appliqué and quilting projects. This spray does not have an unpleasant odour and does not ‘gum up’ the needle. Used to adhere fabric permanently and it can also be used to laminate paper to fabric. The spray looks like a white powder (snow) when applied. The end result is the fabric being a little more rigid than using vliesofix but this will be determined by the amount of spray applied.

To laminate paper to fabric with 606 – cut out the paper shape, spray the back and front of the paper shape. Position the paper onto the fabric. Cover the paper with an appliqué mat and press for 30 seconds – 1 minute with a hot iron. Leave the appliqué mat in place until it is cold. (It is essential to leave the fabic/paper image under the mat until it is cold.) Remove the appliqué mat and the paper is laminated to the fabric. $15.95 per can.

Bias Binding – Bright, colourful, 1” wide bias binding ready to sew! Available in red, green, blue, pink – strips, dots, checks, floral. $2.20 per mtr.

Product Testing I have been using the leather “ThimblePad” from Colonial. This is a small leather dot which sticks to your finger, can be removed and reused many, many times. I have found it easy to wear and less cumbersome than a metal thimble for piecing and appliqué projects. There are 12 thimble pads in a packet for $10.50 I used my Bohin Chalk (blue and purple) to mark and black and white quilt. Simple and easy to use with the added assurance that the chalk markings brush out. The multiple colours available in each packet make it simple to mark any fabric. $21.95 .

I am taking advantage of a few weeks to catch up on some long overdue sewing.

Happy sewing to all

Happy sewing,

Maree
